China's most advanced aircraft carrier, the Fujian, has entered service days after a grand commissioning ceremony overseen by Chinese leader Xi Jinping, state media reported.

The Fujian, the country's third aircraft carrier, is equipped with electromagnetic catapults that allow planes to be launched at higher speeds.

Its entry into active duty marks a significant step forward for Beijing, which now boasts the world's largest navy in terms of the sheer number of ships.

Under Xi’s leadership, China has been rapidly expanding its navy, exerting pressure on the United States and its allies to keep pace.

The Fujian can simultaneously launch three different types of aircraft using its electromagnetic catapult and flat flight deck. Reports indicate that this domestically-built vessel can carry planes with heavier weapons and fuel loads, enabling them to engage enemy targets from greater distances, thus enhancing its power over China's initial carriers, the Liaoning and the Shandong.

State media hailed the Fujian as a major milestone in the development of China's navy.

The United States is the only other nation with an aircraft carrier utilizing the same electromagnetic catapult system as the Fujian.

The commissioning ceremony occurred in southern Hainan province, during which Xi toured the ship's deck, asking about its operational potential. State media claimed that Xi personally chose the electromagnetic catapult technology.

Additionally, reports stated that Xi encouraged sailors lined up on the flight deck and dock, who saluted and chanted: Follow the party's command, fight to win, and uphold fine conduct!
