The stretch of road is a busy tourist corridor, attracting visitors from around the globe. Road accidents continue to claim many lives in Egypt, with nearly 6,000 fatalities reported in 2025 alone.

Such incidents are often traced back to reckless driving and poor road maintenance. Earlier this month, a collision between two lorries in the Ismailia governorate resulted in 18 deaths and 30 injuries.
