Bus crash on Egypt's Red Sea coast kills 22

At least 22 people have lost their lives when a bus veered off the road and collided on the dusty route between Dahab and Nuweiba in the South Sinai governorate.

An estimated 28 others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in three hospitals across the region.

Reports indicate that up to ten of the deceased were Jordanian nationals, attracting the attention of neighbouring Jordan.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, with officials suspending any premature conclusions.

The stretch of the Red Sea coast is a famed tourist hotspot, drawing visitors from around the world, which highlights the urgency of road safety measures.

There is no information on the total number of passengers aboard the bus at the time of the accident.

Egypt’s health ministry noted that all injured passengers are being treated.

Road accidents are a leading cause of death in Egypt; nearly 6,000 fatalities were reported in 2025.

Such incidents are often attributed to reckless driving and poor road maintenance.

Last month, two lorries collided in the Ismailia governorate, killing 18 and injuring 30.
