Actress Faces Charges After 300‑kg Meth Smuggling Plot Uncovered
British star Emaa Hussen, known for her role as Naz in the Eastenders spin‑off E20 and for starring in Jason Statham’s 2013 action film Hummingbird, has been charged with attempting to import a commercial quantity of methamphetamine into Australia.
Authorities say the woman, 34, travelled with men from South Australia to oversee the shipment of 320 kg of meth hidden in bags of charcoal arriving at Sydney’s Port Botany from Ghana. The agents detected irregularities in the two containers and X‑rayed them, confirming the presence of a white crystalline substance that was later tested as meth.
Police seized the 320 kg of drugs before it could be delivered to a storage facility in Girraween in Sydney’s western suburbs, and later removed the containers to keep them in a secure location.
Hussen was denied bail at a preliminary hearing and is due back in court in August. The maximum penalty on the charge is life imprisonment.
The seized meth is estimated to have a street worth of A$296 million – about US$208 million – and could have financed over three million deals on Australian streets under the criminal syndicate’s plan.
Australian Federal Police stated that operatives looked beyond the disguised packaging to uncover the drugs. The Border Force and Australian Police investigated the links to the storage units rented under false identities in Adelaide, where a woman and man were also arrested and charged.
