In a heartfelt social media tribute, the sanctuary described him as "a cherished member of our family." Cassius had a storied past, known for preying on cattle and damaging boats in the wild before his capture. He was purchased by the habitat’s founder, George Craig, in 1987, and the two shared a close bond for more than 37 years. Following Mr. Craig's relocation to Cairns last month, the crocodile’s health declined considerably, highlighting his advanced age, as he was believed to have surpassed the life expectancy of a wild croc. The sanctuary expressed gratitude for the visitors who showed love and care for Cassius throughout his life, announcing that operations may be limited in the coming days as staff mourn the loss of their beloved giant.
