Captured in Australia’s Northern Territory during the 1980s, Cassius became a tourist favorite and was awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest crocodile in captivity in 2011. The sanctuary’s founder, George Craig, welcomed Cassius into his facility in 1987 and formed a special bond with the giant reptile over the decades.

In a heartfelt tribute on social media, Marineland Melanesia referred to Cassius as “our beloved mate” and expressed gratitude to the visitors who came to see him during his long life. Reports indicate Cassius’s health deteriorated following Craig's recent relocation to Cairns, highlighting the deep bond the two shared.

As the sanctuary mourns Cassius's passing, they may operate on a limited basis for the coming days, urging fans and visitors to honor his legacy.
