In brief

The Israeli military announced that it killed two Hamas commanders in a strike on the Nuseirat area in central Gaza on Oct. 29, 2026. The fighters, identified as Ihab Jamil Abu Taqiya and Ibrahim Gihad Muhammad Abu Oshaiba, were accused of supporting attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and violating a ceasefire that began in October 2025. The statement also noted the commanders’ alleged involvement in holding Israeli hostages at the war’s start. No independent verification of the claims has yet been provided.

On Friday, Oct. 30, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that an airstrike on the Nuseirat area in the central Gaza Strip the previous day had killed two Hamas commanders.

The IDF identified one of the victims as Ihab Jamil Abu Taqiya, a squad commander in Hamas’ military wing, who “was involved in holding Israeli hostages in Hamas captivity at the beginning of the war.”

The second commander killed was Ibrahim Gihad Muhammad Abu Oshaiba, a platoon commander, according to the IDF statement.

The Israeli military said the strike was carried out after measures were taken to mitigate harm to civilians, and that both commanders had, they claimed, advanced attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and operated to restore the capabilities of Hamas, “in systematic violation of the ceasefire.”

These claims are contained in the IDF’s statement and have not been independently verified.

The strike occurred despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire that took effect in October 2025, which ended Israel’s large‑scale offensive but has not stopped other Israeli strikes. The U.S.-backed Gaza peace plan calls for further Israeli withdrawals and the disarmament of Hamas, though implementation has stalled.
