In brief

Binance announced a security breach that led to the seizure of about $3 billion in assets and a temporary halt on withdrawals. The firm has set aside more than $6.34 billion—including $5 billion of affected token holdings—to cover any user losses and is collaborating with authorities to retrieve the stolen assets. Binance plans to publish a full technical report and updated proof‑of‑reserves once the investigation concludes.

Binance disclosed on Saturday that it was managing a security incident that had frozen approximately $3 billion in users’ assets and temporarily suspended withdrawals.

In a statement released by the exchange, it confirmed that it has set aside more than $6.34 billion in company reserves—including $5 billion allocated to the affected token assets—in order to cover any losses that users may face.

Binance said that its initial investigation found no evidence of wallet private‑key leaks, and that customer deposits and general trading activity remain unaffected.

The platform has frozen the affected assets on‑chain through cooperation with blockchain partners, and it has revoked authorizations on the compromised addresses. The exchange is working with law‑enforcement agencies, token issuers, blockchain‑intelligence firms and industry partners to track and recover the missing funds.

The exchange announced it would provide regular updates on the restoration of withdrawal services, publish a comprehensive technical post‑mortem once the investigation concludes, and release an updated proof‑of‑reserves report to verify user balances.

In a statement addressed to its users, Binance announced: “Your funds are safe; Binance is covering the impact of this incident, not you.”
