Ukrainian drone attack knocks out power in Sevastopol, Crimea
A Ukrainian drone strike destroyed the main power substation in the Russian‑occupied port city of Sevastopol overnight, plunging the city into darkness, officials said on Tuesday. Moscow‑installed governor Mikhail Razvozhayev warned that some districts may remain without electricity until after Wednesday evening, while emergency services remain on high alert.
The Ukrainian air force said it targeted 48 military installations in the peninsula, with the Sevastopol substation hit among them. Russian forces responded: the defence ministry destroyed over 300 drones that night, while Kyiv reports intercepting 95 of 101 Russian drones launched that evening.
In the wake of repeated attacks on Crimea’s infrastructure, fuel supplies in the city have already been cut off. Russian‑installed leader Sergei Aksyonov announced that all petrol sales were suspended, reserving the fuel for government services.
Residents were urged to conserve energy – turn down phone brightness, close background apps – and for the elderly to check on neighbours amid temperatures expected to reach 30°C.
