Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Three Young Brothers in Frozen Texas Pond
Three young brothers have died in Bonham, north Texas, after falling through ice on a private pond on Monday.
Cheyenne Hangaman, the boys' mother, attempted to rescue them but was unable to save them as the ice kept breaking under her weight. There was three of them and only one of me... that's why I couldn't save them, she recounted.
The children, aged six, eight, and nine, were playing near the pond about 100 feet from the family's home. The youngest boy reportedly fell through first while trying to skate on the ice, leading his older brothers to jump in after him. Hangaman expressed her heartbreak, saying, I tried to fight for my kids' life, where I had to watch them struggle and drown and I couldn't help them.
Despite her efforts, she struggled in the frigid water, leading to a neighbor's timely rescue. Emergency services responded but unfortunately, the two older boys were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while the youngest was found later after an extensive search.
The community is mourning the loss of Howard Doss, six, Kaleb Doss, eight, and EJ Doss, nine, described by their mother as vibrant and full of life. The local school community expressed devastation over the death of the boys, offering counseling for students and staff in the wake of this tragedy.
This incident occurred against the backdrop of a severe winter storm impacting large areas of the U.S., which has already resulted in multiple fatalities and widespread disruption. Families are urged to remain vigilant and ensure their children's safety.
