Poland has detained a suspect blamed for plotting an assassination plot against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz.
The interior ministry said it had received credible information that a man was planning attacks on the two officials. Security services urgently convened a special meeting after receiving the tip, treating the threat as “deadly serious.”
Tusk thanked the police for “swift and decisive action” after the suspect was arrested in the Lower Silesia region. The man, identified as Jacek Dobrzynski, is a Polish national and was caught following an email sent to the State Protection Service that detailed the planned attack.
Poland’s prime minister, in office since 2023 and a former EU Council president, has faced increasing security challenges. The arrest is viewed as a decisive move to safeguard the country’s leadership and maintain stability.
