During a speech at the Valdai foreign‑policy forum, Putin warned that Russia would deploy "every available weapon" – nuclear included – should Western forces attack or block Kaliningrad.

He said the Kremlin was not "threatening anyone" but was responding to comments that the West was preparing for war in 2029 or 2030, and that NATO’s naval manoeuvres in the Baltic Sea were a direct threat to the exclave.

Putin’s remarks come after a spike in hybrid‑war incidents, with drones and alleged Russian helicopter incursions reported by Poland and Lithuania, and follow a week of Russian accusations that NATO was ready to block Kaliningrad’s supply lines.

The Russian president also accused the West of provoking the Ukraine conflict, claiming that Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure were a necessary response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries.

While NATO’s Secretary General has dismissed the Kremlin’s warnings as "unhelpful", the warning underscores a tense geopolitical standoff that could have major implications for European security.
