Edmonton police arrested a suspect after two people were injured in a stabbing at the Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh temple on Friday morning.
Officials said the attack unfolded around 5:00 a.m. local time (12:00 a.m. BST). The perpetrator was taken into custody, but police have not identified the suspect or explained the motive.
The incident comes after police in Calgary confirmed they are investigating threatening calls made to two Sikh gurdwaras south of Edmonton. The World Sikh Organization accused the attacker of being an "intruder" who entered the temple and struck people inside.
It was also reported that a copy of the Sikh scripture inside the temple was desecrated, adding to the severity of the assault. The Gurdwara remains closed while investigators continue the probe.
Calgary’s mayor, Jeromy Farkas, condemned the threats and called them "utterly disgusting," stressing that gurdwaras are places of hospitality and service open to everyone.
