American rapper Kanye West has announced the postponement of an upcoming concert in Marseille, France 'until further notice'.
This decision comes just a week after the Wireless Festival, which West was slated to headline, was canceled due to the UK government's refusal to allow him entry.
Reports suggest that France's Interior Minister Laurent Nunez was considering a ban on the June 11 gig, with sources indicating that he was 'highly determined' to prevent the event.
West has provoked outrage in recent years due to a number of antisemitic, racist, and pro-Nazi statements. In his announcement on X, he indicated that he had given considerable thought before deciding to delay the show, emphasizing his commitment to making amends.
I take full responsibility for what's mine but I don't want to put my fans in the middle of it. My fans are everything to me. Looking forward to the next shows, he said.
Originally expected to perform at both the Wireless Festival in London and the Marseille concert as part of a summer European tour, West's official site continues to list him for several other concerts later this year across Europe, including Turkey, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, with a potential stop in New Delhi, India.
Meanwhile, in France, Nunez is reported to be exploring all avenues to prohibit West from performing, although specifics of this strategy are unclear.
The rapper's perceived threats included a social media post in 2022 where he controversially stated he would go 'death con 3 on Jewish people' and praises for figures like Hitler during an Alex Jones podcast in the same year. He has since expressed a desire to reconnect with mainstream culture after previously apologizing for his actions, framing them as responses to his struggles with bipolar disorder.
