Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of John F. Kennedy, will run for US Congress, he announced to his supporters on Tuesday.

The only grandson of the late former president JFK, Schlossberg, 32, is known for his outspoken political commentary online.

He is vying for the congressional seat being vacated by New York Representative Jerrold Nadler, who revealed in September that he would retire after over three decades in office.

In an interview earlier on Tuesday, Schlossberg expressed that the Democratic Party requires more voices to push back on perceived abuses of power by President Trump and his allies, as reported by the New York Times.

With nearly 2 million social media followers across platforms like Instagram and TikTok, the Kennedy heir has highlighted his ambition to make politics more accessible to younger voters.

In 2024, Schlossberg was appointed as Vogue's political correspondent leading up to the US elections, in part due to his engaging online persona.

He referred to his family's legacy of public service as a source of inspiration, expressing his desire to contribute in my own way.

Identifying his grandfather, JFK, who was assassinated in 1963, as a hero, Schlossberg noted that his administration was a standard for effective progressivism in America.

Upon announcing his campaign, he encouraged followers to donate to support their efforts, promoting the idea of a new generation of leadership for New York.

His campaign website lists "12 promises to the people of New York's 12th district", emphasizing their critical moment to counter Trump's influence.

Schlossberg has been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration, making his feelings clear, even regarding relatives like Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

With the 2026 midterm elections on the horizon, Democrats are eager to regain House control, and Schlossberg's candidacy could be pivotal.

There is little our party can accomplish without control of Congress, he stated.

He has hinted at a potential run for months, joining a crowded field of Democratic candidates for NY-12, including state assemblymen Micah Lasher and Alex Bores, and journalist Jami Floyd.

Newly elected New York City Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, has yet to endorse a candidate in the primaries.
