Iran has rejected US President Donald Trump's 15-point plan to end the war, according to state-run Press TV.
It cited an unknown 'senior political-security official' laying out five of Tehran's own conditions to bring the conflict to an end, including paying reparations for damage.
They bear no resemblance to Trump's proposals, published by Israel's Channel 12 network after US officials confirmed their existence. They include Iran committing not to build nuclear weapons and reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The war began on 28 February with US and Israeli air strikes, after which Iran widened hostilities by targeting American allies in the Gulf.
On Tuesday, Trump said Iran was 'desperate' for talks, suggesting Iranian negotiators had given the US a 'very significant prize,' linked to oil and gas, specifically regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed any suggestion of talks, stating, 'No negotiations have been held with the US, and fakenews is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets.'
What does Trump's plan contain?
According to Israel’s Channel 12, Iran must fulfill several demands for the war to end, focused on preventing the nation from building nuclear weapons and ensuring that its missile program is curtailed.
What are Iran's counter-proposals?
Press TV reported that Iran has proposed five conditions to end the war, demanding a complete halt to aggressions, war damages, and reparations among other stipulations.
Is the end of the war in sight?
Any eventual discussions would likely be led by Trump's peace envoys. However, significant skepticism remains regarding Iran’s willingness to accept US terms, as tensions in the region continue to escalate.
