Iran's foreign minister has called Donald Trump's promise of intervention 'reckless and dangerous', after the US President warned Iran's authorities against killing peaceful protesters, stating Washington 'will come to their rescue.'
In a brief post on social media, Trump stated: 'We are locked and loaded and ready to go,' but did not elaborate further.
Iran's Foreign Affairs Minister Abbas Araghchi responded on X, highlighting Trump's previous deployment of the National Guard within US borders, adding, 'criminal attacks on public property cannot be tolerated.'
He asserted that Iran would 'forcefully reject any interference in their internal affairs.'
Simultaneously, an Iranian police spokesman stated that officers would not allow 'enemies' to turn 'unrest into chaos.' Reports indicate that at least eight individuals have died amid the protests, which reportedly began in Tehran among shopkeepers displeased with a sharp decline in the currency’s value against the US dollar
The protests have expanded to various cities and towns, initially ignited by discontent over the economic situation but growing into a broader dissent against the clerical leadership.
President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated he will heed the 'legitimate demands' of the protesters, while Iran's Prosecutor-General warned that any attempts to create instability would be met with a 'decisive response.'
Iran's UN Ambassador Amir-Saeid Iravani has urged the Security Council to condemn Trump's statements, asserting that the US would bear full responsibility for any ensuing escalation due to these threats.
