The family of Renee Good is accusing federal immigration officers of killing the mother in Minneapolis as she attempted to follow their instructions. On Wednesday, they announced they've engaged the same legal team that represented George Floyd's family to seek answers and accountability.

In a statement, Good’s relatives described her as an agent of peace and emphasized that they do not want her death to be politicized. The Chicago-based law firm Romanucci & Blandin has indicated they will share findings from their ongoing investigation in the coming weeks.

This announcement coincides with a declaration from the Justice Department, which stated it found no cause for a federal civil rights investigation into the shooting. An FBI investigation remains active.

The Trump administration backed the actions of the ICE officer involved, claiming he acted in self-defense when he fired at Good's vehicle as it began to move. This justification has faced significant criticism from officials like Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, both highlighting discrepancies between the officer's actions and video evidence available from the scene.

Meanwhile, recent resignations of federal prosecutors in Minnesota have been reported, along with departures from supervisors within the Civil Rights Division in Washington, leading to further speculation about the implications of Good's death.

The law firm is demanding clarity regarding the federal operation in the area where Good was shot on January 7, including details on the officers’ actions during the encounter and the delay in medical assistance following the incident.

Relatives of Good explain that they had just dropped off their six-year-old child at school and stopped to observe law enforcement activities when they were approached by officers. Their attorneys claim that Good was reversing her vehicle, attempting to leave the area before being shot, though official accounts remain unverified.

“What happened to Renee is wrong,” the law firm asserted, committing to providing the community with information they feel is being withheld. They previously secured a $27 million settlement for George Floyd's family and are now representing Becca Good, Renee's wife, along with her parents and siblings.

In a statement released to public media, Becca Good reflected on the tragic events, describing the disparity between her family's peaceful intent and the officers' aggression: We had whistles. They had guns.”
