TV Star Jub Jub Arrested for Alleged Kidnapping and Shooting

Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye has been arrested after police alleged he kidnapped an unnamed taxi driver and fired a gun toward him during a confrontation over his girlfriend in the town of Edenvale.

According to the police statement, Maarohanye forced the driver into his vehicle at about 07:30 local time, then fired his gun. The driver escaped unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station.

The encounter, which reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a relationship with Maarohanye’s girlfriend, has attracted media attention, given the presenter’s earlier legal troubles. In 2012, he was convicted of murder and attempted murder but later had those convictions overturned to manslaughter. A 2023 arrest on charges of rape, attempted murder and assault was dismissed by the National Prosecuting Authority in 2024.

Maarohanye, who currently presents the reality‑TV show "Uyajola 9/9", is scheduled for an initial hearing at Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
