Less than two months before Hungary's election, opposition leader Peter Magyar has accused his rivals of planning to blackmail him with a secretly recorded sex tape, stating he is filing a complaint with authorities.

Magyar, who leads long-time Prime Minister Viktor Orban in the polls, expressed fears that there are plans to release a tape from August 2024, involving consensual relations with an ex-girlfriend at a party.

He responded to a photo that recently surfaced online, showing a bedroom in an apartment from that period.

Leading figures in Orban's Fidesz party claimed they were unaware of the alleged plot. Magyar's allegations come as he prepares to launch his nationwide campaign next week, alleging that Fidesz leaders are coordinating an effort to damage his credibility and undermine his campaign.

Although no video has yet been released, Magyar suggested any such material would have been recorded with secret service equipment and possibly faked. He has a history of accusations, including a previous claim of extortion against his ex-girlfriend, which she denied. The political landscape is heating up as Orban's Fidesz has pivoted to attacking the European Union, which they accuse of trying to destabilize the government.

With the election set for April 12, these tensions come at a critical juncture, highlighting the intensity of the political race that lies ahead.
