48 Hours of Despair: Venezuelan Girl Survives 32 Hours Under Rubble

On a hot afternoon in the coastal town of Caraballeda, two mega‑earthquakes of magnitude 7.5 rattled Venezuela. The second quake tore apart a 10‑storey apartment block, trapping 12‑year‑old Fabiana Blanco under the shattering walls.

Fearing death, Fabiana found a bottle of ketchup and some grated cheese in the debris. Those small food items sustained her through 32 grueling hours while the ceiling pressed close to her face.

Meanwhile, her mother Karina, a fitness instructor, ran through a sea of twisted steel, calling into the void for her daughter. Volunteers and firefighters tried to reach the trapped girl, but the rubble’s density proved impossible to breach.

A volunteer named Viktor persisted, climbing over debris until a faint voice answered. The call was heard; Fabiana’s voice echoed back, “Apartment – Ritamar Palace … we need help.” This breakthrough prompted a group of rescuers to dig a tunnel that finally opened at 02:00 local time, freeing Fabiana alive.
