In brief

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Monday that Russia is preparing a large‑scale attack on Ukraine’s energy and logistics infrastructure, citing intelligence reports and calling for international pressure on Russia. He warned that Russia’s oil and gas revenues would remain under strain while the conflict continues and asserted Ukraine’s readiness to respond. Russia has yet to confirm or deny the allegations.

In a televised evening address on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia is preparing a large‑scale attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and logistics facilities, citing intelligence reports and stressing the potential targeting of power generation, distribution networks and supply lines.

Zelenskyy said the Kremlin appears to be banking on the United States’ midterm elections to divert global attention from the war’s toll on air‑defence and missile supplies, and urged the international community to apply pressure on Russia to negate the value of its oil and gas revenues.

We must not play games with Russia’s oil and gas revenues. We must put so much pressure on Russia that it has no alternative but to end this war. The world can do this.

He added that Ukraine is justified in responding to any Russian attack, noting its strikes have a “tangible impact” on their targets, and that it will certainly respond to the attack Russia is preparing.

Zelenskyy also remarked that Russia has adopted a “new tactic” targeting not only power generators but also energy grids and distribution networks, indicating a broader strategy to cripple Ukraine’s infrastructure.

Earlier this week, a statement from Ukrainian presidential officials confirmed that they possess “intelligence that Russia is preparing a new massive attack” on the country.

Russia has not yet responded to the allegations, leaving the claim unverified by Moscow.
