In brief

Polish police have bolstered their presence along the Kaliningrad border following concerns over sabotage, a move confirmed by Police Chief Marek Boron. Boron said the deployment was meant to secure the area against potential incidents. The Russian embassy in Warsaw criticized the Polish media's portrayal of the measures as jingoist rhetoric.

Poland has deployed extra police units along its border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region, a measure announced by police chief Marek Boron on Nov. 2, according to TASS.

Police Chief Marek Boron told the RMF FM radio station that the new forces are in place "in case of potential incidents that could lead to acts of sabotage." He said that units from several provincial police departments had been brought to the border area to carry out an operation against potential sabotage.

The reinforcement comes amid heightened tensions and rising jingoist rhetoric in Polish media. Earlier, the Russian embassy in Warsaw had pointed to the Polish press’s allegations of sabotage as part of a broader jingoist narrative.

Domestic authorities say the deployment is purely a security measure, aimed at preventing any illicit activity in the border area. The Russian side has responded by criticizing the coverage in the Polish press as exaggerated.
