The British rapper and YouTube personality Yung Filly, born Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, will once again appear before a Perth court after a jury found him not guilty on three of the ten rape accusations tied to a nightclub event in 2024. The court cleared him of one assault charge and a strangulation allegation, but found him guilty on two other assault counts. Those guilty verdicts will carry sentences after his upcoming retrial.
In the case, Barrientos – a 31‑year‑old social media star raised in the UK – was accused by a 20‑year‑old fan of repeatedly raping and assaulting her after a show in Hillarys, a suburb of Perth. Prosecutors claimed the interaction began with consensual sex in a hotel room, before allegations of violence and disregard for her pleas to stop arose. An Australian judge later accepted the accuser’s testimony, but for two of the other six assault allegations a verdict could not be reached, resulting in a partial acquittal.
He will next appear on 27 August to contest an application to vary his bail, while a definitive retrial date remains unannounced. The prosecution plans for the complainant to provide new testimony at that hearing. For his defence, Barrientos’ lawyer highlighted inconsistencies, embellishments and outright lies in the accuser’s statements.
Barrientos rose to fame through his work with the YouTube collective Beta Squad and has made appearances on the celebrity version of Bake Off on Channel 4 and on BBC Three shows. He has embraced both music and online media, making him a notable figure in the UK‑Australian entertainment scene.
