A Palestinian man was shot dead by an Israeli during a settler attack on a village in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday evening.
A relative said Alaa Khalid Subeih, 28, was killed as he tried to defend a greenhouse from the settlers in Tayasir in the northern West Bank. A senior UN official also said he was killed by a settler.
The Israeli military claimed he was shot by an off-duty soldier, alleging that he was throwing stones.
Tayasir has been a focus of recent violence by settlers. Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are illegal under international law.
The killing comes as ex-security chiefs warned that government-sponsored Jewish terrorism is running wild in the West Bank, compounded by the Israeli government's approval of numerous new settlements.
Saeb Subeih, Alaa's cousin, described him as a respected figure in the village, stating, Alaa was executed after defending a plastic greenhouse that belonged to him. Relatives emphasized the emotional pain of not having his body returned by the IDF.
The UN reports a rise in settler violence, with 206 violent incidents against Palestinians recorded in March 2026 alone.
In light of ongoing tensions, Israeli officials granted approval for 34 new settlements in the West Bank, a decision that has sparked further criticism from human rights organizations and former security officials.
