Savannah Guthrie's Mother: A Deepening Mystery and Community Response

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie has deepened.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared in the middle of the night from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31, and authorities believe she was taken against her will. Police in Arizona have not yet identified a person of interest in the suspected abduction and continue to investigate a series of apparent ransom notes that may have been sent from the person or people behind the alleged crime.

The Guthrie family has made several public pleas for her safe return and has asked for proof that their mother is still alive. Details about the case include:

When did Nancy Guthrie go missing?

Nancy was last seen at her home in Catalina Foothills, an affluent neighborhood roughly six miles northeast of Tucson, on January 31 around 9:30 PM local time. By 1:47 AM on February 1, a doorbell camera at her home was disconnected and removed. Additionally, the app linked to her pacemaker disconnected from her phone shortly after.

Concern grew when she was absent from her church service the following Sunday, prompting her family to alert authorities. Searches commenced with volunteers and federal officers from Border Patrol.

More than a week later, the police released videos showing a masked person, who was armed, at her home on the night she disappeared. The footage showed the individual attempting to cover the camera lens with nearby vegetation.

Savannah Guthrie has used her social media platforms to urge the public for help in identifying the individual. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home, she urged.

Unfortunately, officials later confirmed that blood found on Nancy's porch belonged to her, intensifying fears about her well-being. Without her medication, she may be in critical condition, with authorities stating she is not in good physical health.

What did the alleged ransom notes say?

The FBI has been examining potential ransom notes related to the case, believed to have been sent to various media outlets. These notes included specific details regarding items at Nancy's home.

Authorities have encouraged the community's collaboration in the investigation, with a reward of $50,000 now being offered for information leading to an arrest. Savannah noted that the family is ready to discuss and negotiate for her mother's safe return.
