Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi has been handed additional prison sentences totaling seven-and-a-half years by an Iranian court, according to her lawyer. The activist received six years for gathering and collusion and one-and-a-half years for propaganda activities at a court in Mashhad. Mohammadi was arrested in December for allegedly making provocative remarks at a memorial for a lawyer found dead in his office, with reports from her family indicating she sustained injuries during her arrest. In 2023, she was awarded the Nobel Prize for her efforts against female oppression in Iran. Mohammadi's lawyer revealed she has also been restricted by a two-year travel ban and two years of exile. The Narges Foundation, which supports her cause, criticized the trial as a sham, noting that she began a hunger strike on February 2nd. Previously, Mohammadi had spent over ten years in prison for her activism, and her current sentences have raised her total to 44 years, with her supporters urging global human rights organizations to advocate on her behalf.
