Bill Gates, co‑founder of Microsoft and well‑known philanthropist, appeared before the House Oversight Committee to discuss his links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The committee will probe why Gates kept a relationship with Epstein after the financier’s criminal record became public, whether Gates adequately investigated Epstein’s background, and if either party sought to influence the other for philanthropy or personal gain.
Gates said he regrets the meetings and denied any wrongdoing, insisting their contact centred on potential funding for the Gates Foundation, which ultimately never materialised.
The testimony amid a trove of DOJ documents that list Gates dozens of times highlights the scrutiny faced by tech elites in the wake of Epstein’s legacy.
Congress aims to uncover whether Epstein used Gates’ network for black‑mail or coercion while Gates’ former staff expressed regret over any interaction.
