A Japanese Ground Self‑Defense Force member was dismissed on Friday after testing positive for cannabis and other illegal drugs, according to a Xinhua report citing Kyodo News.
The serviceman was stationed at Kaitaichi Camp in Hiroshima Prefecture.
On Aug. 29, police received a report of a public disturbance. While being questioned on the scene, the member suddenly collapsed and was taken to a hospital, where a drug test revealed the presence of cannabis and other illegal substances.
Local police arrested the serviceman in September on suspicion of violating drug‑control laws. The dismissal followed the positive test results and the arrest, the report said.
