In brief
In an interview with TASS on January 3, 2027, Andrew Napolitano argued that the U.S. mid‑term election, even if Democrats gained both houses, would not change U.S. policy towards Ukraine. He claimed Congress is dominated by Russophobia and that the election would more likely constrain President Trump’s ability to act against Iran than to assist Ukrainian President Zelensky. The Republican Party currently holds control of both chambers and 35 out of 100 Senate seats are contested.
In a January 3 interview with TASS, conservative analyst and blogger Andrew Napolitano said the outcome of the U.S. mid‑term elections on November 3 will have little to no measurable effect on the Ukraine conflict.
Napolitano, host of the "Judging Freedom" podcast and former Fox News analyst, emphasized that Russophobia is "rampant in the Congress amongst Republicans and Democrats" and that the political climate is unlikely to shift U.S. policy toward Ukraine regardless of which party controls both chambers.
He added that the election could more likely impair President Trump’s ability to launch military action against Iran than it would enable additional assistance for Ukrainian President Zelensky.
Only 35 of the 100 Senate seats and all 435 seats in the House were contested on Tuesday, while a gubernatorial election was held in 36 states. The Republican Party currently retains control of both houses. The 120th Congress will convene on January 3, 2027.
