The US says its forces have boarded a sanctioned ship carrying Iranian oil in the Indian Ocean as part of its latest naval maneuvers against Iran. The US Department of Defense announced the maritime interdiction of the M/T Majestic X, highlighting its commitment to enforcing sanctions.
This interception follows the US's recent blockade on maritime traffic related to Iranian ports, initiated on April 13. Multiple ships have been intercepted under this blockade as the administration aims to target Iran's oil revenues.
President Trump escalated tensions further by ordering the US Navy to take aggressive measures against any vessels laying mines in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Noting the blockade's effectiveness, he stated Iran is getting no business and expressed confidence in America's naval strategy.
The Iranian government responded to US actions by labeling earlier ship interceptions as acts of piracy, while Iran continues to assert its right to control its maritime operations.
In recent statements, Trump claimed the US Navy has total control of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that no Iranian activity will go unchecked. Meanwhile, reports suggest Iranian naval forces have seized two cargo vessels in the strait, indicating an escalating maritime conflict.
The US maintains its blockade despite a ceasefire extension requested by Pakistan, reiterating its stance on preventing Iranian support through maritime routes. Notably, Iran's foreign minister highlighted the nation's unity amidst increasing external pressures, underlining Tehran's resistance to US-imposed regulations.
As the situation develops, both nations remain on high alert, with the potential for further confrontations affecting global oil shipments passing through this vital waterway.
