Trump Proposes Florida Golf Club as New Presidential Retreat
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a plan to turn his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach into a secure presidential getaway, likening it to the historic Camp David.
He said the resort would be funded by the club as a “gift” to the nation, with free membership and lodging offered to any future president and visiting heads of state.
Trump emphasised security, noting the club’s proximity to the airport and the lack of surrounding high‑rise buildings as key safety features.
The move follows a string of Trump‑era White House projects, from gilded Oval Office panels to a proposed ballroom and a triumphal arch, highlighting his penchant for personal‑favour initiatives.
Critics point out the commercial nature of the proposal and question its impact on public resources, while supporters argue the plan could boost tourism and diplomatic hospitality.

Whether the club will legally gain the status of an official presidential retreat remains to be seen as officials verify requests from the Secret Service and the Department of Defense.
