At a Siberian research centre, a lab technician died of pneumonia, a death the Russian authorities attribute to an unknown cause.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed rumours circulating online and insisted that people rely on the official statement from Russia’s public health watchdog.
He also urged citizens not to spread unverified information.
Meanwhile, BBC Russia editor Steve Rosenberg pressed Peskov for comments on a recent US offer to provide help to Russia following the incident.
