President Trump at Camp David

Trump Aims to Turn Florida Golf Club Into New Camp David

US President Donald Trump has floated the idea of turning the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach into a presidential retreat that would rival the historic Camp David.

The club would bear the costs of any new buildings, which Trump has described as a “gift” to Americans and future leaders. The proposal would grant free membership to every subsequent president and allow visiting heads of state to stay overnight at the venue.

Trump says the location’s short two‑minute drive from the airport makes it an ideal weekend stop and that its open layout provides maximum safety by keeping people out of sight behind high buildings.

The idea came after the president announced plans for a redesigned Oval Office, a new ballroom, and a triumphal arch in Washington, DC. He has repeatedly framed such projects as national‑security measures.

The White House and the Secret Service have not yet commented on the proposal, but a letter from the golf club’s attorney to the county commission indicated that the club would become a U.S. presidential golf course available at no cost to the federal government.

The move, if approved, would add a luxury‑based retreat to the list of presidential accommodations and would signal a shift toward more opulent symbols of executive power.
