The medal’s front is adorned with a gold and indigo pattern created by First Nations artist Ambrose Killian; 42 half‑round markings along the edge represent each kilometre of the course. The back, instead, is a miniature sculpted rendition of Munich’s inflatable‑cushioned arena, a visual cue that originally belonged to the band‑playful design of the Swiss‑yoked Minneapolis medallists, per the organisers’ post on Instagram.

The event’s organisers tweeted that the artwork was intended to highlight the Sydney skyline and the course’s iconic landmarks, including the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Responding to the error, organisers said they would correct the charting but have not yet confirmed if they’ll re‑print the medal before the race.
