The American Federation of Government Employees has intensified calls for Congress to immediately pass a funding bill, emphasizing the need for comprehensive action. President Everett Kelley voiced frustration, urging that it is time to stop political maneuvering and pass a clean continuing resolution.
Despite this, some Democratic lawmakers have dug in their heels. For instance, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine insists on guarantees from the White House against mass layoffs, while also advocating for extended subsidies for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
As the shutdown stretches further into its fourth week, millions of Americans will soon feel the negative effects more acutely.
