A high-powered lawyer for Nick Reiner, charged with murdering his father, iconic Hollywood director Rob Reiner, and mother, Michele, has officially removed himself from the case. Attorney Alan Jackson announced his withdrawal during a court hearing, although he stated he believes Reiner is innocent.

Nick Reiner, 32, appeared at the Los Angeles Superior Court but did not enter a plea to the first-degree murder charges against him. His parents were discovered with fatal stab wounds on December 14 in their Brentwood home.

Jackson explained outside of court that 'circumstances beyond [his] control' led to his decision to leave the case, but he did not elaborate further due to legal and ethical restrictions. He maintained that Reiner is not guilty of any wrongdoing.

LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, however, expressed confidence that Reiner would be convicted, stating that a jury would find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Nick will now be defended by a public defender after Jackson's withdrawal. Public defender Kimberly Greene requested additional time to prepare as she steps into the case. The next hearing is set for February 23.

Rob Reiner, aged 78, was known for directing classics like 'This is Spinal Tap' and 'A Few Good Men,' while Michele Singer Reiner, 70, was a notable actress, photographer, and producer.
