The personal items the Artemis II crew are taking to the Moon

Four astronauts are about to become the most closely watched crew since Apollo. They will be the first to orbit the moon for more than 50 years, testing the path back for the next generation.

The crew includes three NASA astronauts - Commander Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch - along with Jeremy Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency. Not only are they accomplished pilots, engineers, and scientists, but they are also spouses and parents balancing a heroic adventure against the risks they and their loved ones will face.

What Each Astronaut is Bringing

For the personal item NASA allows astronauts to take up with them, Wiseman plans to take a small notepad to jot down his thoughts during the mission. Christina Koch will carry handwritten notes from loved ones, creating a tactile connection to her family. Jeremy Hansen is taking engraved pendants for his wife and children, and a bit of maple syrup to remind him of home. Victor Glover will carry a Bible, family heirlooms, and inspirational quotes to stay connected to his roots and mission goals.

As they prepare for this unprecedented mission, the astronauts express their motivations and the emotional significance behind these personal items, making the journey not just a technical endeavor but a deeply personal one for each crew member.
