Rudakubana faces three counts of murder and also faces charges of attempted murder concerning eight children and two adults who were harmed during the event. Authorities revealed that after the attack, they discovered ricin, a potent toxin, and troubling materials including a document titled “Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants: The Al Qaeda Training Manual” at Rudakubana's residence. Consequently, he has been charged with producing a biological toxin and possessing potential terrorist-related information.
However, despite these grave findings, law enforcement has not classified the incident as terrorism, stressing the need for clarity on the motivations behind the attack. Merseyside Police's Chief Constable, Serena Kennedy, urged caution against assumptions regarding Rudakubana’s intent, stating that establishing motivation is crucial for labeling an event as terrorism.
In court proceedings, Rudakubana has pleaded not guilty to all allegations and has remained silent during the process. As the trial unfolds, the community watches closely, grappling with the aftermath of a deeply distressing event.
