GRAND BLANC, Mich. (AP) — In a tragic shooting at a Mormon church in Grand Blanc, Michigan, one person was killed, and nine others sustained injuries. The Grand Blanc Township Police Chief, William Renye, reported that the incident took place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located approximately 50 miles north of Detroit. Authorities also noted that the church was set ablaze after the shooting.
The police assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, although details about the conditions of the surviving victims have yet to be disclosed. The church is situated in a residential area, surrounded by a parking lot and a sizable lawn, and is near a Jehovah’s Witness church in the community of around 8,000 residents, just outside Flint.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her deep sorrow for the community, stating, Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable. The next president of the church is expected to be Dallin H. Oaks, in accordance with church protocol.
