DALLAS (RTW News) — What motivated a gunman who targeted a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas remains unclear. The attack on Wednesday resulted in the death of one detainee and injuries to two others, with the shooter identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn.

According to authorities, Jahn opened fire from a nearby rooftop. A troubling photograph shared on social media by FBI Director Kash Patel displayed a bullet inscribed with the phrase ANTI-ICE. Following the shooting, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem ordered increased security for ICE locations nationwide.

No ICE agents were injured during the incident, but the aftermath has drawn attention to rising tensions and violence associated with immigration policies in the U.S.

The tragedy follows another recent high-profile case, further highlighting concerns regarding safety for both immigrant communities and law enforcement agents. The American Immigration Lawyers Association emphasized that every individual involved in immigration processes deserves dignity and safety.

Eyewitness Edwin Cardona recounted hearing gunfire as he entered the facility with his son, expressing fears for their safety amidst an active shooter threat. Fortunately, they were later escorted to safety.

Noem pointed out an alarming trend of increasing violence directed at ICE personnel, referencing other recent attacks against ICE facilities, which highlight vulnerabilities at various locations across the country.

As investigations continue, the FBI has classified the shooting as an act of targeted violence. Authorities are working to gain deeper insights into the motivations behind the attack while calling for a halt to violence surrounding the contentious immigration debate.
