NASHUA, N.H. — A man has been charged with second-degree murder following a deadly shooting that occurred at the Sky Meadow Country Club on Saturday evening. The incident left one person dead and two others injured as patrons rapidly intervened to stop the gunfire.
Authorities report that Hunter Nadeau, 23, from Nashua, was taken into custody nearby and faces serious charges related to the attack. Robert DeCesare Jr., 59, was tragically killed during the incident, with his wife revealing that her husband attempted to shield their family from harm.
My husband got caught in the fire trying to protect us, said Charlene DeCesare in an emotional statement.
The New Hampshire Attorney General, John Formella, praised the selfless actions of the patrons who took immediate steps to neutralize the threat while trying to save lives. People acted courageously, putting themselves in harm's way to help others, Formella noted.
Michael Homewood, a DJ at a wedding event happening at the club, intervened by striking Nadeau with a chair, likely preventing further casualties. He hit him over the head with a chair, and he probably saved a bunch of lives just doing that, Homewood stated.
In addition to DeCesare, two others were injured in the shooting: an employee of the club and a guest, both of whom are recovering in critical condition. Authorities confirmed that they are still investigating the motive behind Nadeau's actions.
Witnesses described a scene filled with panic as guests at the wedding hurried for safety amid the chaos. It was complete chaos, everyone ducked for cover and ran for their lives, recounted one attendee.
Nadeau is expected to appear in court soon, and further charges may be brought as the investigation unfolds. The community mourns the loss of DeCesare, whom many regarded as a hero for his actions during the shooting.
