Chris Brown Released on $6 Million Bail Following Assault Charges in London
The R&B star's release allows him to proceed with his international tour set to kick off in June.
Chris Brown, the prominent R&B singer, walked free from a London courtroom after being granted bail amid serious allegations concerning an assault at a nightclub. The 36-year-old was arrested at a Manchester hotel last week and charged with grievous bodily harm related to an incident where he allegedly assaulted a music producer with a tequila bottle at Tape London nightclub on February 19, 2023.
During a hearing at Southwark Crown Court, lawyers representing Brown successfully argued for his release on bail, which was set at £5 million ($6.7 million). The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the bail application was approved, allowing the artist to participate in his upcoming world tour starting in Amsterdam on June 8, with additional stops across Europe and the United States.
Judge Tony Baumgartner laid down strict bail terms, which include the surrender of Brown’s passport when he is not on tour, as well as a prohibition on entering Tape London. Should he breach any of these conditions, the extensive security fee will be forfeited.
Currently, no plea has been entered, and under UK law, specific details of the case cannot be disclosed to protect the integrity of any future trial. Alongside Brown, American rapper Omololu Akinlolu, known as HoodyBaby, faces similar charges concerning the same altercation, with both scheduled to return to court on June 20.
