Crown Princess Mette-Marit's Son Under Investigation for Multiple Offences
Norwegian police disclose charges against Marius Borg Høiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Norway's future king, is under investigation for multiple alleged sexual assault offences, including three counts of rape. Police reported on Friday that Høiby, who was arrested on three occasions last year in August, September, and November, has had his case forwarded to prosecutors following a thorough 10-month investigation. According to police attorney Andreas Kruszewski, the investigation was extensive, featuring numerous witness interviews and a review of substantial digital evidence. Høiby's attorney, Petar Sekulic, stated that while his client takes the allegations seriously, he denies wrongdoing in most cases, particularly those pertaining to sexual violence. The 28-year-old, who lacks a royal title and official duties, began facing scrutiny after a 4 August 2024 arrest for suspected assault. The Oslo Police District confirmed they carried out a comprehensive inquiry. Høiby was reportedly cooperative during questioning. Among the charges Høiby faces are four instances of sexually offensive conduct, an instance of abuse in a close relationship, and two charges of bodily harm. However, police clarified that some cases of sexual offences were dismissed based on statute limitations and evidentiary issues. Kruszewski noted that the number of victims involved in the case is in double digits. The Royal House of Norway, while acknowledging the ongoing legal process, refrained from making further comments on the situation.
