Vehicle Crashes into Nightclub Crowd in LA, Leaving 30 Injured
A serious incident outside a Los Angeles nightclub saw a car hurtle into a waiting crowd, injuring multiple people.
A late-night incident in Los Angeles has left 30 people injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd waiting to enter the Vermont Hollywood nightclub. The crash occurred around 2:00 AM local time (09:00 GMT) during a reggae/hip hop event, prompting immediate emergency response from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). According to reports, the injuries include seven individuals who are in critical condition and six others classified as serious.
Investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) are looking into the incident as a potential act of intention, given that the driver executed a U-turn before colliding with the crowd. Eyewitness accounts describe a harrowing scene where bystanders rushed to assist the victims. Upon arriving, police found that the driver of the car, a Nissan Versa, had been forcibly pulled from the vehicle by the crowd and was being attacked. One individual in the crowd even fired a shot at the driver. The driver was subsequently taken to a hospital for surgery, although details about his condition remain unclear.
Further investigations reveal that the vehicle not only struck the crowd but also crashed through a taco stand and valet podium. Police photos depict a grey car stopped on the sidewalk amid scattered debris and a significant police presence. Additionally, law enforcement believes that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
In the fallout from the incident, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her sorrow, calling it a "heartbreaking tragedy." She assured that a thorough investigation would take place into the events leading up to the crash. Captain Adam VanGerpen of the LAFD described the atmosphere on the scene as chaotic but noted the commendable actions of bystanders who rushed to help the injured.
