US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shot and killed a man near Chicago on Friday after he allegedly drove his car at a group of agents.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security stated that ICE was attempting to arrest the man, but he resisted and drove towards the agents, dragging one of them along with his vehicle.

The agent, fearing for his life, drew his gun and shot at the suspect.

The driver, identified as Silverio Villegas-Gonzales, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

During the attempted arrest, the suspect resisted and attempted to ram his vehicle into the arresting officers, which resulted in him striking one agent as he fled.

Despite the severe injuries sustained by the ICE agent, he is reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital.

The Department of Homeland Security revealed that Villegas-Gonzales had a history of reckless driving and was an undocumented migrant who had entered the country at an unknown time.

Local police in Franklin Park clarified that they were not involved in the incident.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker took to social media to demand a full and factual accounting of the event, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.

Franklin Park, a suburb with a population of approximately 18,000 near O'Hare Airport, has a significant Hispanic demographic that comprises about half of its residents.

This incident occurred during a time of increased enforcement activities in the Chicago area, prompted by directives from the Trump administration.
