Belgium's King Philippe rejected the resignation of Prime Minister Bart De Wever on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, urging him to remain in office and continue federal budget negotiations, a statement from the Royal Palace said.
Xinhua reported that the announcement came amid “ongoing budget talks in Brussels” and highlighted the king’s insistence that the government continue negotiating the 2027 budget.
Russian news agency TASS, also reporting the same day, confirmed the palace’s decision, noting that the king declined De Wever’s resignation and called for continuity in executive negotiations.
Royal Palace spokesman:
“The King has instructed the prime minister to continue budget negotiations,” the statement said.
Both outlets agree that King Philippe declined De Wever’s resignation and urged him to stay on and push forward with the federal budget talks, leaving the political process on hold as the 2027 budget remains under discussion.
