In brief
Slovakia will keep its 50‑percent rail fare discount and half‑price bus fares until the end of November as part of a fuel‑price relief package. The Finance Ministry has earmarked €5.3 million for rail subsidies and more than €8.5 million for regional bus support. The measures were first introduced in early October to ease the cost burden on households.
Slovakia’s government has decided to extend discounted fares for public‑service passenger rail, regional buses and urban public transport until the end of November, a move aimed at mitigating the impact of persistently high fuel prices on households.
The 50‑percent discount on second‑class rail tickets was first introduced on October 1 for a 30‑day period, while half‑price bus fares began on October 12 under the same duration. According to the Slovak Transport Ministry, the measures have proven effective and will remain in place for an additional month.
The Finance Ministry has allocated €5.3 million (about $5.9 million) to the Transport Ministry to cover the extended rail fare discounts. It will also release more than €8.5 million (roughly $9.4 million) to regional authorities and capital cities to subsidise bus services in regional capitals.
