In brief

Serbia’s REC will hold a repeat vote on November 1 at 53 polling stations where October results were unclear or annulled. The move follows the Preliminary results, where the Student List won a majority. Details about the annulled polls remain unconfirmed. The decision also covers two stations in eastern Serbia where a Bulgarian minority votes.

Serbia’s Republican Electoral Commission (REC) announced that repeat voting will take place on Sunday, November 1, at 53 polling stations that either produced unclear results or were annulled after the October 25 parliamentary elections.

The REC said the decision comes after local electoral commissions found that the results of 31 stations could not be determined. In addition, 22 other stations were annulled, though the REC did not disclose the reasons for the annulments. Two of the stations are located in eastern Serbia, where members of the Bulgarian national minority elect their representatives.

REC President Vladimir Dimitrijevic stated that the repeat vote would be held on the next election day to preserve the integrity of the parliamentary process. The commission did not provide further details on the annulled stations or how the repeat vote will be conducted.

The preliminary results published on October 26 showed the Student List receiving 52.17% of the counted votes and the United Serbia list 39.17%. Four minority lists also secured seats in Parliament.

While the REC’s schedule for the repeat vote is confirmed, the specific circumstances that led to the annulments of 22 stations remain unconfirmed pending additional investigation by the REC and local authorities.

Reports from RIK noted that Serbia decided on the night of the announcement to hold the rerun on November 1, confirming the date though details of the annulments were not yet released.
