In brief

EU Commissioner for Budget Piotr Serafin is scheduled to spend a two‑day trip in Bulgaria on 29 and 30 October, meeting Prime Minister Rumen Radev, Deputy Prime Minister–Finance Minister Galab Donev, and Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov. He will open a conference on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and meet municipal leaders before touring the National STEM Centre in Sofia Tech Park and the satellite‑manufacturing lab at EnduroSat.

EU Commissioner for Budget, Anti‑Fraud and Public Administration Piotr Serafin will visit Bulgaria on 29 and 30 October, the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria announced. The visit follows his tour of Europe to consult Member States on the bloc’s next long‑term budget.

On Thursday, Serafin is set to confer with Prime Minister Rumen Radev, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Galab Donev, and Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov, who oversees EU fund management. He will open a conference titled "The Next Multiannual Financial Framework: Priorities and Principles" in Sofia. Organizers include the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Bulgaria, and the Sofia office of the European Council on Foreign Relations.

Friday’s agenda includes a meeting with the National Association of the Municipalities, where the commissioner will exchange views on the regional aspects of the National and Regional Partnership plans in the next MFF. He is then scheduled to visit the National STEM Centre in Sofia Tech Park, a hub managed by the Ministry of Education and Science and co‑funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Following the STEM centre tour, Serafin will visit the laboratory and mission‑control room of EnduroSat, a satellite manufacturer and space‑service provider that receives EU funding through the European Innovation Council. Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov will accompany him on both visits.

During his broader tour, the commissioner has held numerous visits and dialogues across EU Member States and is gathering insights that are shaping the 2028‑2034 MFF proposal. Stakeholders emphasize the need to simplify funding procedures, ease administrative burdens and improve transparency, urging the EU to reduce overlapping regulations and enhance legal consistency to make funding easier to navigate.
